OPEN POSITION: STUDENT LIBRARY ASSISTANT

The OCOM Library is in search of a new Student Library Assistant to join our staff. This is a work study position; see full job description below.

For fall term, we are currently looking for someone who can work between 2-4 hours on Thursdays (between the hours of 8AM and 4PM); additional shifts will also be available to those who meet this requirement. JOB DESCRIPTION

Position:  
Student Library Assistant, OCOM Library

Hours:  
4-8 hrs / week

Description:  
The Student Library Assistant is the face of the OCOM Library; you will be the first face that people entering the library will see, and will be interacting with patrons extensively. You will be responsible for staffing the library circulation desk, shelving books, processing materials, keeping the library organized, and answering general questions about the library, such as “Where can I find ______?” Student Library Assistants will need to become familiar with the library, as they will be responsible for helping students, staff and faculty find books in the stacks or assist those having trouble with computers / printers.

The Student Library Assistant is expected to be reliable and punctual to shifts. They should be friendly and approachable, and should complete assigned tasks up to library standards and in a timely manner. Student Library Assistants are not required to know the National Library of Medicine Classification System, but will be expected to learn how to quickly navigate the catalog and find materials on the shelves.

  • Ability to learn how to use library automation software

 

Physical Demands

May sit or stand for extended hours; work on a computer for extended hours.
